Daniel Murray (1981)

Considered one of the most talented Brazilian guitarists of his generation, Daniel Murray pursues an active career as an interpreter and composer, performing in Brazil, Latin America and Europe since 1998.

His first prize at the Concours International de Guitarre de Trédez-Locquémeau, in Brittany, France, at the age of 14, marks the beginning of his career.

His discography includes eleven albums, five of which are dedicated to the solo guitar. His first work, recorded in 2008 - "Universos Sonoros para Violão e Tape", was funded by the Petrobras Cultural award. It was followed by "Tom Jobim for Solo Guitar" and "Autoral", both produced by Paulo Belinatti; "Universos em Expansão", featuring contemporary classical music, as well as works recorded as a member of Duo Saraiva-Murray, Trio Opus 12, Quarteto Tau and Núcleo Hespérides.

In 2011, he toured London (St. Martin-in-the-Fields and National Theatre, among others), Cambridge, Athens, Paris, Saint-Germain-lès-Corbeil and Septveaux, as well as taking part in the BIG (Guitar Biennial) in Chambéry/Lyon and the MIDEM Festival in Cannes. He also performed as a soloist at the Porgy and Bess, a traditional Vienna concert hall, as the only Brazilian selected to join the Classical NEXT program, an important international platform for classical music.

In Denmark, he performed at the Royal Danish Conservatory of Music, and conducted a series of didactic concerts through LMS - Levende Musik i Skolen. In 2015, he was nominated for the Concert Prize for his solo performance.

In 2016, he recorded "Brazilian Landscapes" in Denmark (OurRecordings / Naxus), along with Michala Petri (recorder) and Marilyn Masur (percussion), the album was silver medal winner on the Global Music Award. In the same year, his composition "Song and Dance" earned him the first place in the Concurso Novas III.

In 2017, he made his début as a soloist, performing Heitor Villa-Lobos' concerto, as well as his own composition "Camarecóica" with the Israel Chamber Orchestra (ICO) conducted by Doron Salomon, in Tel-Aviv.

In 2018, he received a prize at the FMCB – Festival de Música Contemporânea Brasileira for his performance honoring Egberto Gismonti. In that year, he was also a soloist with the Orquestra Sinfônica Nacional (OSN) in Brasília and the Camerata da Orquestra Experimental de Repertório (OER), and toured in Germany promoting his recent solo album "14-37 - Brazilian Music for Solo Guitar" (Acoustic Music Records), in which he presents a retrospective of his career.
